Tikkun Olam

Jewish tradition is not just ideas.

We are obligated to turn our study and prayer into action to create a world of wholeness, justice, and peace.

  • Rabbi Fenster & Rep. Bob Morgan in the Illinois House Chamber

    State House Invocation

On April 6, 2022, I was honored to deliver an invocation to the Illinois House of Representatives. I was the first rabbi to speak from the lectern in nearly three years.

  • Prayer for Poway

After the shooting at the Chabad of Poway, I wrote this prayer of hope, defiance, and solidarity with our community.

  • Jewish Community Candidate Forum

Every two years, Congregation BJBE hosts the North Shore Jewish Community Candidate Forum. With a team of lay leaders, we partner with 20 or more local synagogues and Jewish organizations to host candidates for federal, state, and local office. I have been honored to moderate the event for the past three election cycles.

  • RAC-Illinois

I serve on the core team of RAC-Illinois and have been involved since its inception. We have organized lobby days, phone banks, and letter writing campaigns and have won campaigns on housing, refugee rights, and criminal justice reform. We use community organizing strategies to leverage the collective power of the Reform Jewish community in Illinois to build a more just and compassionate Land of Lincoln for All.

  • Religious Leaders United

We are strongest when we build bridges across lines of difference. Religious Leaders United is an interfaith association of clergy in our region. We gather for our Interfaith Thanksgiving Service and find opportunities for partnership and solidarity throughout the year
